Providing nutritional solutions for families in India
Abbott has helped address some of the leading health issues in India for more than a century. Dr. Wallace Abbott, the founder of Abbott, expanded his U.S.-based business to India in 1910 – just 22 years after the company’s founding.
And since that time, Abbott has had a continuous and growing presence in the country. Now, Abbott celebrates our biggest investment in India to date – the opening of a new nutrition manufacturing plant in Jhagadia, Gujarat. The new facility produces Similac®, PediaSure®, Ensure® Mama’s Best® and Glucerna®.
The new facility will work together with Abbott’s nutrition R&D center in Bengaluru as part of our approach to be closer to consumers. By doing so, Abbott can create customized nutrition products that address the diverse and changing health needs of people in India.
But for Abbott, providing nutritional solutions and other healthcare products for families in India is just one part of our investment. In order to create healthier communities and help people achieve all that life has to offer, we believe it is also important to invest in those communities.
That is why Abbott has set a goal to source up to 80 percent of ingredients to support the new India facility from local suppliers. To help meet this goal, Abbott is developing a program to work with 1,500 dairy farmers in the region to provide education and training in an effort to assist farmers in increasing their milk supply. Through this partnership, Abbott plans to help farmers expand their operations, strengthen the local dairy industry and increase production of high-quality milk.

Abbott is proud to be a part of the community in India and is continuously looking for ways to better meet the needs of our partners, suppliers and consumers. The opening of the new nutrition plant is another step on Abbott’s journey to help the children and families in India enjoy all that life has to offer.
